There are many late afternoons (and some mornings too) when the sky is dark with clouds and the sun suddenly breaks through near the horizon, shooting long rays across the landscape. If I were religious I would believe that God had decided to turn on the stage spotlights for his next act. The light show only lasts a few minutes but it's enough to send us all outside to gawk at the drama.
