The Brook

So I added another bird to our list! I saw a yellow warbler in the shrubs by the brook this evening! Otherwise lots and lots of red-winged blackbirds who also love to be near the water. The brook had recently overflowed its banks more than ever in anyone's memory. It even crossed the road, closing it temporarily. Is it global warming? Is it the increased development nearby that has changed the way rain soaks in, causing more run-off than ever before?

Hola Mamina! Hey - I just discovered your comment about my English vs. Spanish post. What a coincidence that you found that letter, and what insight Cranberry had into how repressive schools generally were and still are.

Today was one of the more emotional days of my teaching career; the staff seems to be falling apart and fighting with each other, and this affects me and makes it harder to smile and be patient, and so the students are adversely affected. Yesterday two of our freshmen set off a bomb in a locker outside my classroom, and they are now in jail. I often say that I think and feel too much to be a teacher in public schools, and today I was so overwhelmed and upset by the time 6th period rolled around (not an uncommon ocurrence) that I ended up telling them that I'm moving to Africa.
Then two of my MexEx kids said some really sweet things to me, and I ended the day on a happier note.

Off to play flamenco (para cante) and then to a student's house to watch the Warriors game...
