the fireplace emerges

The Brothers Bard continue to work wonders with our hand-picked stones from the fields. Next comes the hand-hewn beam for the mantle. The keystone is a ringer--made from a block taken from St. Christopher's Roman Catholic Church in Red Hook, where the first generation of Kloses suffered catechism every summer Saturday in the 1950s.

Looks fantastic - thanks for documenting the process. Maybe one day we'll all be sitting around that hearth showing these very pictures to generations of Kloses to come...
As for the catechism stone, two of my 4th grade girls are having their first confession tomorrow, and I could just barely muster the politeness to fake a smile to the parents. What does a 10 year-old girl have to confess? Then again, Tanzania gave me a greater respect for organized religion, so who am I to judge?
